Jones went to work with his uncle, an electrician. after leaving Benjamin Franklin High School in 1964 and before joining the Marine Corps in July 1966 Jones told friends he planned to return to the electrical business after finishing his tour of duty in Vietnam with Headquarters and Service Company of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. The 20-year-old lance corporal, a wire-man, died in Quang Tri Province on July 8, 1967, during Operation Buffalo. He was en-gaged to be married. Survivors included his mother and a brother. The career non-commissioned officer worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard for three years before entering the Army in 1947. He served at bases in Germany and Korea, among oilier places. and was ordered to Vietnam in December 1967. The 39-year-old master sergeant. a light weapons squad leader and a platoon leader, was first sergeant of Company C of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. Jones died in Vietnam on Jan. 19, 1968. He was survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter
