The oldest of eight children, was nicknamed "Sandy" because of his light hair. He attended Roxborough High School before leaving. The 19-year-old private first class, an automatic rifleman, was assigned to Cornpany M of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. He died in Quang Tn Province on Dec. 10, 1966. Survivors included his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
