A Korean War veteran with 13 years in the Army, private first class Coffield told his mother, “If I die, 1 will have died for my country.” He had enlisted when he was 16 by misrepresenting his age. The 34-yearold •squad leader and rifleman was engaged to be married when he died in Vietnam on Jan. 20, 1966. He was survived by his mother and sister.
