Brooks, 24, enjoyed crew, football and tennis. He earned a business degree from Drexel In-stitute of Technology and was in the ROTC program. He graduated in 1966 and entered the Army in December of that year. Brooks planned to save a portion of his officer's salary to pay for law school. The first lieutenant, a platoon leader in Company B of the 2nd Bat-talion, 1st Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Bnigade, died on the South China Sea coast near Chu Lai, Quang Tin Province, Vietnam, on Dec. 28, 1967. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Brooks and his wife bad been expecting their first child. Survivors in-eluded his wife, parents and a brother.
